Typical English weather greeted Silverstone for the climax of the weekend at 1pm. For sixty laps, twenty racers dodged heavy rain, and caught brief moments of sun. Lewis Hamilton in front of his home crowd, put in a scintillating wet weather drive, beating Nick Heidfeld and Rubens Barrichello by over a minute. Full gallery: www.warrenwilliams.co.nz/f1

The crowds grew larger today, near capacity, whilst everyone witnessed some intense and surprising results. Heikki Kovalainen made his maiden pole position and Mark Webber completed the front row.

The British Grand Prix marks the half way point of the 2008 Formula One championship, which is closely fought between the top drivers of Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica, Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. Fridays practice day had great weather, with many burnt faces by the end of the day. The outlook for the next couple days however, doesn’t look promising.

The Thames Barrier located East of London is a flood prevention barrier, used for exceptionally high tides and storm surges. Near to the O2 dome and Canary Wharf, the scene is rather impressive.

St Paul’s Cathedral rises over 100metres above the skyline of London, and is visible throughout the city. The Millennium Bridge connects St Paul’s to the Tate Museum and the walkway along South Bank.

Hampstead Heath is London’s largest and most beautiful park. Views from Parliament Hill overlook most of London, whilst the park also features open air public swimming pools and plenty of walking tracks.

The final stop of the day, after a busy day was walking along South Bank, and deciding it was a perfect time to head up the London Eye. Timing the thirty minute ride, to capture the unusually great light in London before sunset at the peak of the 135metre wheel.

The dome was built as a celebration of the new millennium, holding a major exhibition throughout 2000. The dome was renamed The O2 in 2005, and now features an indoor area, movie complex, bars and a restaurant.

Greenwich Park is one of London’s finest assets – and also houses the Royal Observatory, situated directly on the meridian line.

Walking on from Canary Wharf, we took the stroll under Thames linking Canary Wharf to Greenwich

Emerging on the Southern side of the Thames, the view up to Greenwich Park and the historic architecture quickly captures the eye. We took a much needed pub lunch rest at the Trafalgar Tavern, and took the opportunity to borrow a friends impressive lens – the “holy grail” Canon 85L (f1.2)

Met up with a group of photographers for a walk around Canary Wharf, Greenwich Park and the O2 (Millennium dome).
Starting around the financial and modern district of Canary Wharf, the buildings created good shooting subjects.

The UK Spring Bank holiday weekend is on presently, however as long weekends go, the bad weather has also arrived. Here’s a photo from Bethells, New Zealand, shot three years ago which I’ve previously made available in a triptych frame.

The Chislehurst caves, are a labyrinth of hand dug passageways, totalling 22 miles in length. Parts of the cave system are thought to be over 4000 years old, and once housed 15,000 people during World War II as an air raid shelter. More recently, concerts were peformed by Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and other big acts for the acoustic qualities, until health and safety put a stop to such performances.
Due to the low light, ISO 6400 used on all these shots, with the Canon 1D Mk III
