In search of the fabled Loch Ness Monster, the weather was closing in fast. Seeing the sun disappearing behind the dark clouds, took some photos from Dores on the Eastern coast of the great lake.

After spending the late afternoon in Inverness, drove around back down the Western side of Loch Ness heading towards Isle of Skye. Half way along the lake, Urqhart Castle stands out, flood lit across the view of the lake.

Along the A86 just past Spean Bridge, the rich autumn colours and railway caught my eye

The Glenfinnan viaduct is a famous railway bridge spanning 21 arches across the Scottish hills. Recently featured in some of the Harry Potter movies.

The day was dark and moody, with rain approaching, decided not to walk to the bridge itself, but rather press on towards Loch Ness.

Soon after Buachaille, the Three Sisters of Glencoe become apparent through the winding roads.

Spent the night alongside the impressive mountain commonly known as The Buachaille. Morning dawned, and a two minute walk lead to a stream running past the mountain.

Heading North West through Scotland, came across a river softly lit up by a street lamp, mixing with a 3min long shutter speed to blur the stars

Following on the A82 towards Glencoe, many deer were seen near to the roads, eyes lit up by the passing headlights.

20 miles South of Newcastle, the sign pointing to Peterlee has caught my eye the past couple of times I’ve driven past. Tonight, I stopped on the offramp from the A1 dual carriageway, and took this shot – Peter Lee is also the name of one of my best friends in Auckland – so this one’s for him.

The annual Danson Park fireworks display was held this evening across the lake providing a fine view, with proceeds going to a charity. Living on the fringes of the park, managed to avoid the traffic congestion.

Reverse bungy

I will be travelling back up to Newcastle and Scotland tomorrow, with a week to explore Loch Ness, and Isle of Skye.

Revisited Saint Margaret’s on Cliffe, on a calm Sunday afternoon. My cousin Steven was in tow, and a good photo subject! Beats some of the exile I’ve experienced whilst travelling around.

Spent the evening walking around Quayside by the River Tyne in Newcastle. The main feature of Quayside is the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, which tilts to allow boats to go under. I’ve left some images higher resolution to take in the full detail of the scenes.

Alnmouth is a quaint village just off the A1058 coastal highway. The golden sand beach, is one of the best around that I’ve seen, with many families out on this fine autumn day.

Alnwick Castle in Northhumberland a medievel castle, recently seen in some Harry Potter films. Photographic wise, it was quite limiting – lack of trees, and harsh midday sun. The nearby Alnwick Gardens looked splendid from the outside, but couldn’t justify another £9 charge to get in there also! The inside library, art room and dining room were great, however a strict non-photography rule was in place – This has been the tradition, however most other castles now allow photography inside.

Wast Water is one of the best scenes in the lake districts (recently voted the best scene in the UK, by the people!) – steep hill faces, a view of England’s tallest peak – Scafell Pike. Just a shame there were low clouds obstructing the view 😉
